Research

New: 19/12/06: SIS and Prism Arts are running a series of taster workshops throughout 2007 where you will have fun exploring art in its many forms. This is not a formal art class, no experience is necessary, just a willingness to experiment with help and support from an experienced artist. The first workshops will take place during March at THE PLAYSTATION, Huntley Avenue in Penrith - 1 afternoon per week for 5 weeks and will run from 1.00pm – 3.30pm on the following dates: Wednesday 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th March & 4th April.

The second series of workshops will take place during the summer in Carlisle at the new SIS premises at Riverside View, Warwick Road, 1 evening per week for 5 weeks and will run from 6pm – 8pm.

The workshops will be free of charge and there may be travel expenses available if you have difficulty getting to and from the venues.

If you would like to be involved, please could you fill in your details on the form (Link below) and briefly let us know the types of art you enjoy.

Please return the forms before February 1st 2007

Open Questionnaire

16/06/2006 - S.I.S is increasingly being asked to provide creative and alternative ways of expressing and relieving feelings to help people find ways of reducing their need for self-harm.  This project is a way of finding what people would like to try and to see if there is a need to develop more regular opportunities in the arts and creative field.

SIS and Prism Arts are hoping to develop an arts project in the autumn of 2006. To begin with we hope to plan a series of taster workshops or sessions where you would have the chance to try out different ways of creative expressions.

S.I.S received funding from Y Speak to:
  • Consult with young people, (aged 13 to 25) who self-harm to identify:
    • Ways of reaching those young people who self-harm, particularly those who keep their self-harm secret and feel unable to access help.
    • What type/s of support do young people who self-harm need.
  • To offer young people the opportunity to be involved in developing support for young people who self-harm.
  • To identify and build links with young people.
  • To set up a ‘steering group’ of young people who will be involved in consulting with their peer group and local community and will inform and help SIS and its management team to develop support that responds to the needs of young people.
  • To offer young people the opportunity to develop skills that will enable them to make a positive contribution to their peer network.
  • To empower young people to have a voice about issues that they have experience of or feel are important.
  • To plan for the future an accredited training programme for young people to become peer mentors / educators in self-harm.
